Out & About in East Devon.
East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) is a vast and captivating landscape encompassing intimate wooded combes, immense heathland, towering cliffs, undulating hills and lush river valleys.
It also includes the East Devon section of the Jurassic Coast which is home to prehistoric fossils and rocks which enable us geological insight into the Earths enchanting history. A perfect destination for the whole family, why not spend a day exploring the beaches of the Jurassic Coast to see what fossils you can uncover and try to work out what stories they may tell. The Jurassic coast is England's first natural World Heritage Site and certainly a must when visiting East Devon.
There is unlimited walking, horse riding and biking almost from the doorstep on woodland, heathland footpaths and bridleways overlooking the fantastic scenery of the South West Coast. The heathland and local river estuaries at Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth are a haven for birdwatchers and include specialist RSPB sites.
Exmouth’s 2 mile long sandy beach is a favourite for families and also for riders, sailors, windsurfers and kite surfers alike and the local reservoir, rivers Otter and Exe and sea ports offer freshwater, coarse and deep water fishing.
Whether you're looking to continue your Coast Path journey, explore rural Devon, enjoy the cosmopolitan lifestyle found in Exeter, support your team against the Exeter Chiefs or simply relax by the River Otter, you'll find it here. We hope to welcome you soon.
